Info from Attorney General Josh Stein at the NC Department of Justice
As of October 10, NCDOJ has received more than 300 reports of alleged price gouging for essentials like lodging, groceries, and fuel. We are continuing to see reports come in as more people get back online. We are reviewing each report and have issued four civil investigative demands already. If your office or constituents see concerning conduct, you can report it to my office by calling 1-877-5-NO-SCAM or via our online form (ncdoj.gov/pricegouging).
We’ve also compiled tips to help consumers avoid disaster repair and charity scams, along with other resources, including information for renters and landlords (ncdoj.gov/helene).
